In this course we explore the exciting theme of artistic couples in art history. We are looking predominantly, but not solely, at married couples.
We commence with the 17th century and proceed through to the Modern Period, looking at artistic output, mutual influence and collaboration as well as biographies, including many relationship problems. It might get stormy! The talks will be richly illustrated.
Subjects include well known artists such as Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar; Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson as well as lesser-known artists such as Maria and Richard Cosway and the Armstrong Forbes duo.
