Ground level downwards in Norwich and Attleborough
with Matt Williams
Attleborough Town Hall
Friday 10.00 to 12.00 Noon 24 April, 1 & 8 May 2026
Unless you’re totally satnav-dependent or a stranger to the area, you’ll probably find your way around using a natural sense of direction and local landmarks – operating in two dimensions.
This short course aims to enhance your sense of ‘place’ in this part of Norfolk by encouraging an appreciation of the third dimension – what lies beneath our feet and how the ground level varies. In considering the geological and historical context, our understanding will also touch on the fourth dimension of time.
Matt Williams has spent much of his life based in the Norwich area. Through many years working as an engineering geologist and latterly as a cycle instructor, he has gained a detailed study of the physical and historical make-up of the city and surrounding area.
He has published a number of books and articles on physical aspects of Norwich and local characters. He enjoys searching out the continuity from the past into the present and asking how these linkages can inform our planning for the future. www.sctbooks.co.uk
